Brussels-based SRT Corvette team, with at the wheel of the American GT the brand new drivers duo comprised out of Archie Hamilton and Isaac Tutumlu, continued on their successful run with a great performance in the GT Open. Following a fifth and third place in the 5th of the eight rounds of the International GT Open, SRT is now in full contention for the final teams ranking, and this as a newcomer to the series. After ten races the count is now six podium places, a more than well-deserved performance for an initial season in this championship. This championship is now enjoying a summer recess and will be back in action in Belgium at the beginning of September.

For the fifth of eight rounds the International GT Open travelled across the English Channel. Once again the venue was an internationally renowned Formula 1 circuit, in the world’s oldest motorsport country: Silverstone, just north of London.

The championship takes in some of the greatest European circuits, and very often Formula 1 circuits with loads of history”, Spanish driver Isaac Tutumlu explained, who in the business world is fully involved in sports marketing. “This undoubtedly gives the championship an additional cachet.

On Saturday morning Archie Hamilton and Isaac Tutumlu did not experience easy qualifying sessions, with respectively an eleventh and tenth place for the young Brit and his Spanish teammate.

Patrick Selleslagh: “We were unable to get to grips with the climatic conditions, with a wet track. This did not make the qualifying sessions any easier.”

In the first race – on Saturday – both SRT drivers proved their worth, climbing up from 11th to 5th spot - and fourth in the Super GT class – resulting in valuable points for the championship.

The following day matters improved even more, gaining 7 places: the duo at the wheel of the brilliant Corvette C6.R had clinched their sixth podium of the season. Thanks to this result SRT is in a good position for the championship.

Patrick Selleslagh: “Both races were really good and with a bit of luck on our side we might have also enjoyed a podium on the Saturday. I’m truly delighted and definitely want to carry on working with these people. Who knows we might even come across some additional challenges this season!”

The championship is now taking on a rest period, prior to racing on home soil on 4th and 5th September: on the world’s greatest circuit in Spa-Francorchamps.

The International GT Open is an international championship, under the care of Jesus Pareja. The championship is comprised out of 8 meetings, and additional information is to be found here: http://www.gtopen.net/
