ICEMAN goes for it.

They call him Iceman, calm and silent Fin Kimi Räikkönen who took his deal of bad luck in almost half of last years' GPs, retiring due to McLaren-Mercedes' problems. However, he succeeded in finishing 3rd once, 2nd twice and winning in Spa at the end of the season. Neither this season started well (8th and 9th place) but then he began winning the qualifications. Even though he did not get across the finish line in Imola he turned the pole positions into the victories in the last two races. Namely the latter one, in Monaco, was of special value for him. He stood up to his biggest rival Alonso with Renault, kept the first place behind the Safety Car and when he went to pits in the middle of the race, his advantage was enough to come back in the first place again. Following the rules of tactics he slowed down in final stages, maintaining his 20s advantage over the others. It was START-FINISH style victory. Montoya also profited from the excellent current quality of McLaren-Mercedes coming 5th after the start from the last row.

Albers from Minardi brought excitement into the race when he blocked the track causing 4 drivers to stop, and Michael Schumachers' wing got torn off. He went to the pitstop untimely, coming down from the 8th to the 13th position. The fight among Alonso, Heidfeld and Webber, who stuck together from the half of the race, raised the spectators from their seats. As Alonso's rear tires wore out quickly he couldn't resist the pressure from both Williamses, that made it to the podium for the first time. It was also the first time for Alonso not to finish among the best three. F.Massa and J.Villeneuve lost possible points in a senseless fight in the St.Devote corner. There were no points for Fisichella either, who, after the Australia, won points only in Barcelona.Räikkönen leaped to the 2nd place in classification, ahead of Trulli, who didn't gain any points. Similarly McLaren-Mercedes comes second after Monaco. This is what our idea of a thrilling GP looks like. Let us hope it will last as long as possible.
