The qualifications outlined quite clearly what happend later in the race. Fernando Alonso kept his first position from the start to the finish, even through the pit stop. He managed to keep an enormous advantage over Kimi Räikkönen, who however, had to fought his way from the rear thanks to the replaced engine. M. Schumacher finished third. The strategy appeared to be the standard two pits in a race.
