What to expect from the season 2009

Will we see a black flag over a circuit, let us hope not!

The first race hasn't even started yet and already you can see interesting things in the Formula 1 show. Again we have seen rules change, above all the ever questionable, both technically and financially demanding, KERS system, or boost, which allows the driver to use the stored kinetic energy from the brake system once per a lap, shooting a formula forwards with the additional power of about 80 hp. This should make overtaking easier and make the race more interesting for the viewers. It is also supposed to effect the pit stops.I remember the seventies, mainly the F. Cevert's crash in October 1973. Immediately afterwards Sir Jackie Stewart retired from racing and started his stubborn struggle for the safety of drivers. I am afraid we may see a black flag over one of the circuits, as the immediate power boost might be the cause of unforethought overtaking accidents. I will be glad to be able to write that nobody died after this season. Another dispute of the current days is also the diffuser position at Ross Brawn's car. I haven't seen any pictures yet, I expect though, that a strategist, smart guy and engineer Brawn, used a system similar to KIN, which was used by the pioneer designer Vaclav Kral. The diffuser will stretch from under the wing to the bottom of the car to optimize the down-force. Vaclav Kral used the exhaust gas to increase it, this system might be the same or slightly modified principle. Anyway, we will see the discussion and whether this system will be used at all. Slicks, the tires without a tread pattern, are another change this year, but Formula 1 has already seen this. There are no big changes amongst the drivers, except for the freshman Buemi, the rest of them are old hands. The rules also removed the numerous flapping "aerodynamic surfaces". The return to gracious streamline narrow nose-cones will definitely have its say it the overall performance of the cars. There will be 10 teams once more, although the last of them, HONDA, was bought five minutes to twelve. The Ross Brawn's team showed some good results in tests, the experienced Button and Barrichello guarantee success for sure. As far as my mother team - Ferrari - is concerned, we should finally witness a revolution in management and organization, there should be no more mistakes of the engineers and the team should win back the title through F.Massa, who missed it last year and this might be his last season, no matter how much I am his fan. An analysis of managerial and organisational mistakes was done in winter and we will see the best of the team boss Stefano Domenicali (delayed congratulations for his recent birthday). I hope that M.Schumacher will continue to support the team.As for the other teams, I see a huge progress of BMW SAUBER, mainly in the strength of the team and the Polish driver, winner of the Climber of the Year in F1 2008 Robert Kubica, who might very well be one of the drivers to go for the title. The blend of team spirit, excellent team management of prof. Theissen, and outstanding car may bring the Championship. I definitely would not underestimate the BMW SAUBER. Contrary to the latest performance of Renault, you'll see. Lewis Hamilton, defending his Championship will fight hard to win again and link to the long tradition of McLaren Mercedes. There is a lot to look forward to, the season starts this weekend.
